Abstract
The objective of this article was to determine how women entrepreneurs in Mexico City perceive their business skills and their relationship to their personal characteristics. A questionnaire was administered to 272 businesswomen, using descriptive and correlational analysis. It was found that a high percentage of businesswomen identify with the ability to make decisions, innovate, adapt to changes, detect opportunities, confront environmental challenges, manage and take calculated risks, and exercise participative leadership. Furthermore, the majority of them identify as entrepreneurs, stating that the main obstacles are financing, business training, and fear of failure. The perception of entrepreneurial skills is primarily related to the level and area of education, business experience, and self-identification as an entrepreneur.
